Workshop Description:
Come learn and expand your knowledge of watercolor painting with professional visual and designing artist, Heidi-Lee Peach.
In this class you will learn how to build up on watercolor paper with techniques to help control your painting. There will be options of references or bring your own. We'll create paintings using a bright palette, and work from light to dark, saving the whites on the paper for highlights.
The goal is to help you feel comfortable with the process. So many people are frightened by watercolor, because the color is so permanent. Much of that is true, but there are easy ways to prevent the paint from getting on the paper and preserve the whites. We will learn those ways in the class.
Teacher Bio: Heidi-Lee Peach received a BFA degree at the Maryland Institute, College of Art, where she showed her talents in many art classes but chose her major of interior design, so that she could support herself. Working successfully in that field for 15 years, in 1998. a serious illness brought her back to her roots where she was able to pursue her first love of painting. It also brought her close to her father, who was a professional oil painter and painted plein air in the 70's. Heidi began with painting watercolors when she was a child, but really dove deep into it in 2000, followed by acrylics and the past few years, oils, creating hundreds of paintings. She is blessed to share she celebrated her 25 years as a survivor in 2024.
Heidi has taught for Clayton Visual Arts here in her gallery Heart2Hands Art Gallery, which she opened March 1, 2020. Also, shei has been involved with many plein air events in the southeastern part of the state, including Southport, Wilmington Azalea home and garden paint out, Wrightsville paint out, Edisto Island paint out 26', Wake Forest-Paint the Forest, Swarm in Cary and has done the quick -paints including New Bern, NC and Lighthouse point, FL. She has also been invited to do a residency on Bald Head Island for 2027.
Supplies will be provided so just show up-and be ready to have fun 🙂
A variety of watercolors will be provided along with a misting bottle. The gallery will provide cool and warms of red, yellow, blue-with some mixing lessons too. We will use some plates for mixing the colors-and each student will have two water containers- one for light colors and one for dark colors- We do suggest using a professional cold press watercolor block with 9x12" paper to start but we will provide paper as well.
NOTE: if you have materials you would rather bring, you are welcome to. The price includes all materials and no discounts will be given.
Note: please bring a 2B pencil and a small sketch pad about 5x7ish for notes and making a sketch of values.
You may want to bring a smock or painters clothes Some latex type gloves, if concerned about your hands

Experience: Just a little-you should know how to hold a brush, some color mixing is helpful- but that is it.
