Workshop Description:
Come expand your knowledge of oil or acrylic painting with professional visual artist, Eric McRay.
In this class you will learn how to capture sunlight, create deep shadows, and dynamic luminous color. Your art will pop with color. We'll create paintings using a brilliant palette, complimentary colors, thick application of paint, and elements of abstraction.
Our goal is to charge into expression, unleash one’s self, and get carried away into painting!
Teacher Bio: Eric McRay received a BFA degree at the Maryland Institute, College of Art, where he earned a four-year scholarship for his artistic talent. A native of Washington, DC, McRay started his teaching career at the age of 16 teaching youth at the YMCA and the Capitol Hill Day School. McRay has had a varied range of teaching & lecturing experiences with Jerry’s Artarama, Cary Arts Center, Salvation Army, Cary Visual Arts, United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake, Mary Phillips School, Longview School, Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities, Wake County Public Schools, NC State University, UNC-Chapel Hill, Saint Augustine’s University, Artspace, and various NC arts councils.
Supplies to bring for acrylic/oil painting:
Canvas:16×20 or up to 18x24 inch canvas.
A set of acrylic/oil paint brushes. Various sized brushes.
A variety of colors of acrylic/oil paint (red, yellow, blue, orange, purple, green, white, and brown. It's always good to have a warm and cool color of each primary.
A palette for oil, paper plates work well for acrylic
Two containers for water to clean brushes-the gallery provides them or bring your own
Palette knives
Easels for larger canvas will be provided by instructor
Your smock or painters clothes
Some latex type gloves, if concerned about your hands
Must Bring several hardcopy prints or photographs of landscapes you're interested in painting. Please do not work from a pre-existing painting.

Note: for oil painters- only odorless solvents with lids and solvent free mediums can be used. Please bring your box to transport your painting from easel, to box, to your car. Also, bring baby wipes to clean off your brushes and hands before leaving the sunroom, into gallery. Brushes never get cleaned at gallery,

Medium: Acrylic/oil beginner to intermediate painter
NOTE: Please Bring your own lunch for this class- There will be a 30 minute break- No snacks will be provided. Bring a lidded drink. A fridge is in the kitchen. We have filtered water for refills. Grab a plate to eat your lunch on. Thank you!
